An anti-racist action with participants from Moviment Graffitti, Indymedia, Integra Foundation, Malta Gay Rights Movement and Third World Group was held at the beginning of a right-wing march organized by ANR.
In a press release the opposing organizations said that they joined together to voice their concerns with regards to the dangers of xenophobia and racism. They said that was being done, in a peaceful and symbolic manner, through the setting up of a banner with the inscription; 'Viva Malta Hielsa mir-Razzizmu' (Viva Malta Racist Free).
The concern of the anti-racist organizations is that the far right are hiding under an image of moderation and they insisted that the only potential outcome of such protest is that fear and hatred against immigrants is spread. The ultimate aim of such protest is that of increasing violence by throwing more fuel into the fire.
The organizations said that a protest against irregular migration is in itself ridiculous. This is due the fact that no one is in favor of irregular immigration; no one desires that these people had to leave their home-countries and no one is happy that these people have to risk their lives through undertaking such a dangerous journey.
Finally the coalition urged Maltese society not to be deceived by such ill meaning organizations that are trying to instill xenophobic and racist ideas under the pretence of patriotism, nationalism and even Christianity.
