'Sette Giugno' is the day which remarks the lives lost by Maltese people, in the struggle against British Colonialism, which was ruling Malta, after the second world war.
Moviment Graffitti, put a banner stating '1919 : Hakma Kolonjali, 2006: Hakma tal-ispekulatur' throughout the celebration of 'Sette Giugno', today, which occurs each year , at Valletta. With this banner they wanted to point out the fact that the Maltese society, which is so called 'free from colonialism' is now still being practised in an another way; by imposing the rule of speculators which automatically deprives Maltese citizens of enjoying the pleasures of a natural ambience and thus also, from benefitting from enviormental resources.
Moviment Graffitti, together with many other organizations, show extreme disapprovement with the government's tendencies of destroyng enviormental habitats for the typical justification of 'economic developement'
There has to be much further effort by MEPA, in order to protect enviormental habitats and limit the excess devlopement that is occuring in our country, causing an enviormental crisis. MEPA's role should take a stronger stand! It should ensure it's position by being a less biased organization that works independently from the government's and other biusnesses' influence. Rather than standing behind the government's will, MEPA should be more open to public, and other organizations's opinion.
Thanks to organizations', enviormental awareness is increasing. The general public is acknowledged about the present situation and how this will get worse if we don't make our voices heard. We should all agree that protests, demonstrations and all factors that bring about public awareness are vital for the sake of both the enviorment and its benefits. We must stand up for the right causes....and this is one of them.
