Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) should be a tool for social justice

Moviment Graffitit said that the CHOGM Forum should serve as a tool for social justice which gives priority to respect of diversity, human rights, radical democracy, equality and sustainable development. Moviment Graffitti said "A collective effort should be made within the Commonwealth so that no abuses on human rights will be tolerated. In a number of member states, human rights abuses are carried out on people seeking refuge, opposition activists, indigenous people and on activists within trade unions and other civil society organisations".

Africans deported from Spain and Morocco risk death in Sahara desert

Among the deportees, there are a number of refugees, some of them with UNHCR (UN refugee agency) papers. There are also pregnant women and children, many of whom are sick. One man told of how people, injured in the attempt to enter Spanish territory, were left to die in the desert, said Fr Boades SJ, a Spanish Jesuit in telephone contact with the deportees.

Taste The World 2005

The fair trade festival Taste the World will be held on Saturday, 3 December, at St. James Cavalier in Valletta between 9.30am and 10.00pm. The theme of this year's edition is Colour the Difference, a tribute to the beauty and vibrancy of the diverse cultures of the global South represented by fair trade. The special foreign guest is the fair trade expert and activist Richard Adams, a member of the Economic and Social Committee of the EU, who will be talking about alternatives to the unjust world trade system.

Latest Amendment in Refugee Act Might Spell Another Human Rights Disaster

The latest amendments in the Refugees Act will give the government the leeway to deport to the country of origin, an applicant for refugee status, pending his or her Appeal to the application.
